Contestant
Opportunities
Women of diverse backgrounds and dreams begin their ascent to the
title of Miss America by entering a local pageant. The Miss
Berks County Scholarship Organization provides that first step
for young women who meet the eligibility requirements specified
below.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible, a contestant must ...

Be female
- Be at least seventeen (17)
years of age AND at least a senior in high school to compete in
the current pageant season. Contestant can be no older than
twenty-four (24) years of age by September 30th in the year in
which she will compete in the National Finals.

Be a citizen of the United States

Live, work, or attend school in one of the following
counties for at least the past six months: Berks, Chester,
Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Schuylkill

Be single and never have been married, with no
dependents

Be of good, moral standing
There is no entry fee or sponsorships required, and
each contestant competes for scholarship dollars by participating in
four segments of competition... talent,
private interview, swimwear and evening wear/on-stage interview.
The Judging System:
Judging in each segment is based on the
Olympic scoring system. Each contestant receives a score from a low
of 1 to a high of 10, with the highest and lowest scores being
discarded. Scores from all segments are then accumulated for each
contestant, and the highest total score determines the titleholder.
On the local level, the various segments account for the
following percentages of a contestant's total score:
Private Interview = 25%
Talent = 35%
On-Stage Question =5 %
Evening Wear = 20%
Swimwear =
15%
